Severe weather Sunday brings hail, high wind

UNDATED – Severe thunderstorms brought some large hail and damaging winds to parts of western South Dakota Sunday.

Hermosa reported 2.25-inch hail from thunderstorms that came through just before 8:00 last night.

In Meade County, a severe thunderstorm with wind gusts in excess of 60 mph rolled through the Sturgis area earlier in the evening.

A weather gauge 3 miles west of Union Center recorded a thunderstorm wind gust of 54 mph while in Sturgis, small hail was reported along with some welcome rain.

In Lawrence County, reports of 1.75–inch hail and heavy rain led to some flooding reports in Deadwood and a 74 mile per hour wind gust was reported just west of Whitewood.

Reports of over an inch of rain were reported in the Deadwood area.
