SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Renner Royals used a three run seventh inning to tie Post 15 and then held on to win 6-5 in extra innings at the South Dakota Legion Baseball State Championship game Tuesday night.
The Royals scored three runs in the top of the eighth and led 6-3 heading into the bottom of the extra inning. Post 15 East made it interesting and scored 2 on the Royals to close within a run.
It all came down to an infield single from Ryne Hammerstrom that loaded the bases, before Renner reliever Aspen Dahl got Nate Sprenkle to fly out.
Teegan Schlimgen had three hits and two RBI for Renner, while Zach Ridl, Andy Moen and Dalton Garbers each had two hits. Ridl was credited with the win on the mound, working 1.1 innings of relief before Dahl came on and got the save.
With the win, Renner gets a bid to the Central Plains Regional. However, East will join them. They are the host team for the tournament, which kicks off Aug. 4 at Sioux Falls Stadium, and as the host, they get an automatic berth.
