CUSTER, S.D. – A deputy with the Custer County Sheriff’s Office shot a man while responding to a 911 call in Custer Sunday night.
Investigators say a woman called dispatch asking for help and when the deputy arrived, he was led into the residence when a man holding a gun appeared.
Both the woman and deputy told the man to drop the firearm, but he raised and pointed it at the deputy. In response, the deputy fired his duty weapon at him. The man was transported to Monument Health for treatment of his injuries. The deputy was uninjured and placed on administrative leave per policy.

The Division of Criminal Investigation and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
