PIERRE, S.D. – A senate committee has approved a bill that would allocate state money for a planned shooting range north of Rapid City.
The Senate Ag and Natural Resources Committee voted 5-2 to send it on to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The bill would commit 2.5 million to the facility, being proposed by the Game, Fish and Parks.
Area landowners heavily oppose the range, expressing among, other things, safety concerns and potential impact on road maintenance in the area.
A similar bill was struck down last week in the House Ag Committee.
