HURON, S.D. – The South Dakota State Cross Country Competition was held Saturday in Huron, with races in all three classes for boys and girls.
In Class AA boys, SimeonĀ Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens captured first place, finishing in a time of 15:16.19. Cashton Johnson of Harrisburg placed second and Jared Lutmer of Pierre came in third. Grady Loos of Stevens added another West River top five as he finished in fifth place.
Deron Graf of Sturgis had a very good run, finishing in tenth place.
In the girls race, Ali Bainbridge of Sioux Falls Lincoln won the race in a time of 17:26.09. Libby Castelli of O’Gorman placed second and Brionna Holso of Stevens came in third. Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish had a nice finish in fourth place and Gracie Uhre of Stevens came in 7th. Kira Ubence of Douglas placed ninth.
Top placing Scooper was Brinna Sheldon in 12th.
In Class A, Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche won the boys race in a time of 15:30.28. His teammate Lane Krautschun finished in second. Luke Rupert of Hill City finished in third and Gage Grohs of Custer finished in fifth.
In the girls race, Isabelle Bloker of Sioux Valley won in a time of 18:32.67. Natalie Smith of Sioux Falls Christian was second and Jade Ecoffey of Red Cloud was third. Ramsey Karim of Custer came in fourth
In Class B, Josiah Schroeder of Canistota won the race in a time of 16:38.25. Tavin Schroeder of Freeman Academy came in second and Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County took third. Philip’s Wakley Burns came in fifth and his teammate Tukker Boe finished in seventh.
Winning the girls race was Emery Larson of Chester Area, finishing in a time of 18:15.24. Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern came in second and Kaelyn Ulschmid of Arlington finished in third.
In the team titles, Rapid City Stevens boys and girls captured the Class AA titles. Sturgis finished in seventh in the girls and fourth in the boys.
In the Class A team title, Belle Fourche won the boys with Hill City in second and Custer in fourth. Sioux Falls Christian took the girls Class A title with Custer in third and Red Cloud in fourth.
And, in Class B, Philip won the boys title and Potter County won the girls.
