STURGIS, S.D. – Six Sturgis Scooper athletes held a signing ceremony Tuesday as they announced their future athletic ambitions.
Evan Stroud signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Minnesota West University. He says “their baseball program is phenomenal and their coaches really filled me in on what it was about, and it’s really close to home.” Stroud will pursue a sports management degree.
Dysen Peterson signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Mount Marty College. Dysen says “I visited it about a month ago, and I like the campus and the coaches are friendly, it just felt like home.”Dysen will be studying for a business management degree.
Cain Peters is headed to Northern State University to play baseball. He says “my coach is friends with one of their coaches, so it kind of just worked out. And then it seemed like a pretty sweet spot to play.”
Gavin Ligtenberg plans to play basketball at Dakota State. Gavin says “It was a really good fit, the campus was nice as was everyone I talked to. I like it there.” He plans to study business education and become a teacher and a basketball coach.
Owen Cass will also attend Dakota State, where he will play baseball. Owen says “I visited campus in the fall, it felt like a really good fit, and I messaged the coaches a few months ago, and they talked to me about the program and I just saw myself in their program.” Owen plans to study computer science.
And, Jake Vliem will attend Northern State University to play basketball. Jake says “it was my first visit, and everywhere else I went, I compared it to Northern State. Since the first visit it always felt like home.” He plans to major in biology and transition to optometry.
