Slippery roads lead to accidents Sunday morning

STURGIS, S.D. – Light snow and ice created hazardous travel conditions early Sunday, as the Highway Patrol and local law enforcement responded to several accidents.

Rapid City and Black Hawk fire crews were sent to a jackknifed truck near Black Hawk on I-90 that was leaking diesel. Crews were forced to drain the 20 gallon tank on the truck. Crews shut down that area of I-90 as clean up commenced.

It wasn’t the only accident in the area between Rapid City and Exit 48. Another semi was seen in the median near Peaceful Pines Road. At least two other rollovers were also reported.

In the northern hills, a truck also slid off the Interstate on top of Whitewood hill.
