An issue that brought west and east river voters together was the referendum held on a pipeline bill passed by legislators and signed by the governor. The victory to those who brought the bill for a state-wide, public vote was seen as a victory for private property rights.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – As a new year begins, here’s a look back at some of the best and most newsworthy images published in 2024 by South Dakota Searchlight, a non-profit news organization that delivers news across the state.
