PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Health officials reported a two-day total of 666 new COVID-19 cases Saturday after not issuing a daily report on New Year’s Day.
Active cases to begin the new year are up 37 to 5,733 today and the number of people hospitalized dropped by 15 to 282.
Thirteen new deaths have been reported, sending the state’s toll since the pandemic began to 1,501.
Around the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported a two day total of 150. The total number of cases in Pennington rises to 11,347 and 801 remain active.
In Meade County, 31 new cases were reported over the past two days, with the total number of cases rising to 2,262. There are 137 active cases in Meade.
In Lawrence County, 22 new cases have been reported, sending the cumulative total to 2,577 with 116 remaining active.
Elsewhere across the Black Hills area, Butte reported 9 new cases, Custer had 7, Oglala Lakota added 3 and Fall River County reported just one.
