South Dakota continues to see an increase in COVID-19 as active cases increase by more than 200 Friday

PIERRE, S.D. – Active cases of COVID-19 increased another 201 as the state Department of Health reported 304 new cases of the virus Friday.

Active cases have risen to 2,332 as hospitalizations remained stable at 125 for a second day in a row.

Monument Health says they have 47 people in the hospital with COVID-19 and the head of medical affairs says just over 99-percent of them have not been vaccinated. Of those 47, thirteen are in the I.C.U. and five are on ventilators.

No new COVID-19 – related deaths were reported Friday, keeping the state’s death toll at 2,057.

Across the Black Hills area, there were 129 confirmed cases and 8 probable cases.

Pennington County had the most wit 67 confirmed and 6 probable for a total of 73.

Meade County had one probable case today as well as 27 confirmed for a total of 28.

The other probable cases was in Custer, who also had 6 confirmed new cases.

Elsewhere, Lawrence County had 11 new cases, Butte County added 14, Fall River County had 3 and Oglala Lakota County reported one new case.

According to the Department of Health, the latest 7-day positivity rate, Aug. 12 through Aug. 18, is 14.4%. There were 727 new persons tested reported on Friday. The new persons tested positivity rate for Friday is 41.8%.
