South Dakota Dept of Transportation releases its final rally vehicle count numbers

STURGIS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation has released its final vehicle count for this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The D.O.T. says they recorded 525,768 vehicles entering Sturgis this year. That is a 13.8-percent increase over last year.

The D.O.T. placed traffic counters around the Sturgis area to acquire their numbers. The count began on Friday, August 6th and ended Sunday, August 15th.

The biggest day was Saturday, August 7th, when 67,482 vehicles entered Sturgis. Sunday, August 8th was the next biggest day with 65,771 vehicles.

By comparison, the 75th Anniversary of the Rally in 2015 brought in 747,032 vehicles.

The D.O.T. says they will have a more comprehensive report on this year’s numbers available next week.
