SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Governor Kristi Noem announced Friday that the South Dakota National Guard troops sent to Texas to assist that state with stopping illegal immigrants from Mexico entering the U.S., will return from their mission later this month.
Noem said in a statement, “Thanks to our troops, Texas had time to organize and will now increase its financial commitment and manpower from within the state”.
The mission was met with controversy after Noem announced that it would be funded by a $1 MIL donation from a Tennessee billionaire earlier this summer.
South Dakota is sending an additional 125 troops to the southern border next month on a federal mission.
