RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors during its meeting in Rapid City Wednesday approved adding girls softball to its list of sanctioned sports.
Softball is set to begin during the 2022-2023 school year.
The board has yet to decide on which season the sport will be played in – fall or spring. It plans to finalize that decision at its January meeting.
Right now, it appears Class A and Class B will likely play in the spring.
Some Class AA schools, however, favor playing in the fall.
Opponents to fall play say there are already six girls sports in the autumn season and they fear that could lead to participation problems.
