FORT PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota high school rodeo athletes head into the final round of competition this weekend at Fort Pierre, where the State Finals are taking place.
Up for grabs, trips to the National High School Finals Rodeo.
In the bareback riding, Kashton Ford of Sturgis is the man to beat. He scored a 73 in the second go round after scoring a 75 in the first and remains on top heading in to the short go. His closest competitor is Reece Luder of Fruitdale. He sits in second place eight points back.
Piper Cordes of Wall continues to lead the barrel racing with 60 points. Landry Haugen of Sturgis is third and turned in a better time in the second go – a 17.693.
Charlie Henwood of Belle Fourche is leading the breakaway roping and Mason Moody is leading the bull riding.
Brylee Grubb of Spearfish and Jaysee Jones of Howes are tied at the top of the leaderboard in the goat tying with 52 points each after the second go.
T. Merrill of Wall remains the leader in the pole leading after the second go and Traylin Martin leads the saddle bronc.
In the steer wrestling Grey Gilbert of Buffalo and Denton Good each are at the top with 49 points and Tate and Tyan Johnson continue to lead the team roping.
Rance Bowden still leads the tiedown heading into the final round.
