South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals underway

FORT PIERRE, S.D. – The 2021 South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo is underway in Fort Pierre and Sturgis’ Landry Haugen is off to a hot start.

Haugen is the leader in barrel racing after the 1st go, with a time of 15.810. Wall’s Piper Cordes is second. Haugen is also second in the girls’ cutting and the leader in the pole bending.

Other first round winners include:

Chase Yellowhawk of Blunt in the bareback with a score of 30. Kashton Ford of Sturgis is second with a score of 28.

Saydee Heath of Colome leads the breakaway in a time of 2.990.

Mason Moody of Letcher leads the bull riding with a score of 30 and carter fortune is the champions in boy’s cutting with 81.50 points. Trey Fuller of Faith finished in second.

Layni Stevens of St Lawrence leads in the goat tying with Acelyn Brink of Newell in second.

Elizabeth Haiar of Rapid City won the girl’s cutting with 82 points.

Cadell Brunsch of Pine Ridge won the reined cow horse with a score of 89. Jackson Grimes of Kadoka placed second with 81.50.

Traylin Martin of Faith leads the saddle bronc after one go.

Quinn Moon of  Creighton is the first round leader in the steer wrestling.

Leading the team roping is T. Merrill of Wall and Cade Hammerstrom of New Underwood.

In the tiedown, Rio Nutter of Rapid City is first with 42 points. Denton Good of Long Valley is second with a 35.
