South Dakota Highway Patrol investigating fatal Beadle County crash

WOLSEY, S.D. — One person died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash south of Wolsey.

Names of the two people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary information indicates that a 2000 Buick LeSabre Limited was southbound on U.S. Highway 281. It collided with a northbound 1993 Chevrolet CK 109 pickup that was initially in the wrong lane.

The 77-year-old male driver of the pickup, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to the Huron Hospital where he died. The 66-year-old male driver of the Buick was wearing a seat belt. He suffered minor injuries and also was transported to the Huron hospital.

That area of U.S. Highway 281 was closed to traffic for about five hours following the crash.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
