PIERRE, S.D. – For the second time in less than a week, a carbon capture pipeline permit application is denied in South Dakota.
This time, the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline was denied today by the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission.
PUC staff recommended the denial on the same basis the Navigator line was denied last week.
Neither company said it could build its line in light of zoning restrictions passed in four counties.
Landowners attorney Brian Jorde joined the PUC staff position, saying state law required the denial.
Summit’s attorney Brett Koenecke asked the commission to postpone the hearings rather than deny the permit.
Commissioners moved forward and denied the permit instead.
