UNDATED – Happy National Energy Awareness Month! With U.S. energy consumption having declined by 7% last year, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2021’s Most & Least Energy-Efficient States, as well as accompanying videos and expert commentary.
To gauge the financial impact of doing more with less energy — the average American household spends at least $2,000 per year on utilities and another $1,568 on motor fuel and oil — WalletHub compared the auto- and home-energy efficiency in 48 U.S. states. Due to data limitations, Alaska and Hawaii were excluded from our analysis.
According to WalletHub, South Dakota ranks 22nd overall. It scored high, 8th place, for Home Energy Efficiency. However, it scored low, 46th, for Auto Energy Efficiency.
