South Dakota records 293 new COVID-19 cases, and two Black Hills area deaths

UNDATED – South Dakota recorded 293 new cases of COVID-19 according to health officials in their Saturday report.

Three new deaths were also reported, sending the state’s death toll to 173. The three new deaths were listed as one man and two women. One death was recorded in the 70-79 age range and two deaths were recorded in the 80+ range. The deaths were reported in Clay County, Custer County and Lawrence County. For Custer County, it is their first reported COVID-19 related death. For Lawrence County, it is their fourth.

The statewide active number of cases is up another 25 today to 3,057.

Pennington County reported the most new cases in western South Dakota today with 38. The cumulative total in Pennington rises to 1,598 and 449 remain active. Active cases are up 7 today.

Both Meade and Lawrence Counties each reported 6 new cases today. Meade’s total rose to 338 Saturday with 136 active cases. The active caseload in Meade is down one today.

Lawrence County’s cumulative total is at 248 with 105 remaining active. The active cases in Lawrence County are down 11 Saturday.

Elsewhere around the Black Hills region, Oglala Lakota County added six new cases, Custer County reported 5, Fall River County had 3 new cases and Butte County reported one new case of COVID-19.

After seeing a double-digit rise Friday, the number of hospitalizations was down today to 86. That is three less than Friday’s 89.
