South Dakota reports second child to die from COVID-19 complications in Tuesday update

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 2,265 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, with 582 of those listed as probable. Today’s numbers do not include the long three day weekend, which will be released tomorrow.

Active cases have hit a new high – 28,813. The number of people hospitalized dropped one from Friday’s report to 348.

One new death was reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,560. The new death was a child under the age of 10 out of Minnehaha County. South Dakota has now reported two COVID-19 related child deaths this month.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County added 351 new cases with 59 of those listed as probable.

Lawrence County had 81 new cases with 5 probable and Meade County listed 70 total new cases with 5 of those probable.

Elsewhere, Butte County has 20 new cases, Fall River County reported 19, Custer County showed 18 new cases and Oglala Lakota County added 17.
