South Dakota State AA, A and B Track and Field wraps up day one Friday

UNDATED – Three Black Hills area cities are hosting this year’s South Dakota Class AA, A and B State Track and Field Meets.

In Sturgis, where the AA meet is taking place, Friday saw some area athletes take first place medals.

Rapid City Stevens brought home the Class AA Boys 4×800 meter relay and Rapid City Central’s Matayah Yellow Mule won the girls’ triple jump.

In the girls’ 4×200 meter relay, Rapid City Stevens finished in a close second behind first place finisher Sioux Falls Lincoln.

In the girls’ pole vault, Rachel Cammack of Sturgis wrapped up a great year with a fourth place finish in the pole vault.

Jason Maciejczak of Douglas came in second in the boys’ discus throw.

Julian Swallow of Rapid City Central placed second in the boys’ triple jump and Halle Rogers of Spearfish took fourth in the girls’ high jump.

At the Class A meet in Spearfish, Jade Ecoffey of Red Cloud won the girls’ 3,200 meter run with Abby Cutler of Hill City finishing in second.

The Custer Wildcats placed second in the girls’ 4×800 meter relay, won by Mt Vernon/Plankinton.

Mikael Grace of Custer placed second in the boys’ 110 meter hurdles and Jaylen Nacthigall of Hot Springs came in fourth in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles.

Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche had a solid second place finish in the boys’ 3,200 meter run and his teammate, Aiden Giffin, finished second in the 100 meter dash.

Haleigh Timmer of St Thomas More finished second in the girls’ 100 meter dash, milliseconds behind winner Lexi Evan of Parker. Tori Alstiel of Rapid City Christian came in third.

Marcus Harkless of Hot Springs came in second in the discus throw and Bella Jensen of Belle Fourche was second in the girls’ triple jump.

Kellyn Kortemeyer of Custer was second in the girls’ discus throw.

At the Class B meet in Spearfish, Jonathan Burkhalter of Bison finished in first in the boys’ 3200 meter run.

New Underwood got a solid second place finish in the girls’ 4×200 meter relay, which was won by Colman-Egan.

Lexa Burtzlaff of Newell had a second place finish in the girls’ triple jump and Keegan Hett of Harding County finished in third in the boys’ high jump.

Hank Kraft of Timber Lake won the boys’ triple jump with Wall’s Reid Hanson placing second.

Events continue at all three state meets on Saturday.
