South Dakota Unemployment Claims Filed for Week Ending June 5

PIERRE, S.D. – During the week of May 30-June 5, a total of 215 initial weekly claims for state unemployment benefits were processed by the Department of Labor and Regulation. This is a decrease of 48 claims from the prior week’s total of 263.

The latest number of continued state claims is 1,495 for the week ending May 29, a decrease of 670 from the prior week’s total of 2,165. This indicates the number of unemployed workers eligible for and receiving benefits after their initial claim.

For the week ending June 5, a total of $269,000 was paid out in state benefits, in addition to $647,000 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), $83,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and $274,000 in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits.

The Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund balance was $161 million on June 6.

Benefits paid since March 16, 2020:

  • Regular State = $114.5 million
  • FPUC = $236.5 million
  • PUA = $20.7 million
  • PEUC = $10.5 million

Total = Approximately $382.1 million
