South Dakota Unemployment Numbers for week of June 6-12

PIERRE, S.D. – During the week of June 6-12, a total of 266 initial weekly claims for state unemployment benefits were processed by the Department of Labor and Regulation. This is an increase of 13 claims from the prior week’s total of 253.

South Dakota will terminate its participation in the federal pandemic-related unemployment assistance programs effective on the week ending June 26, 2021. DLR will continue to pay regular State claims.

The latest number of continued state claims is 1,873 for the week ending June 5, an increase of 279 claims from the prior week’s total of 1,594. This indicates the number of unemployed workers eligible for and receiving benefits after their initial claim.

For the week ending June 12, a total of $311,000 was paid out in state benefits, in addition to $704,000 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), $69,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and $282,000 in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits.

The Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund balance was $160.9 million on June 13.

Benefits paid since March 16, 2020:

  • Regular State = $114.8 million
  • FPUC = $237.2 million
  • PUA = $20.8 million
  • PEUC = $10.8 million

Total = Approximately $383.5 million
