Spearfish F.D. knocks down pickup truck fire Tuesday

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish Fire Department quickly knocked down a vehicle fire Tuesday afternoon on Christensen Drive.

Multiple calls reporting a vehicle on fire came in around 12:25 p.m., and once on scene, firefighters found a 1995 Chevrolet K1500 fully engulfed. It had reportedly been started, after which the cabin began to fill with smoke.

Spearfish Fire Department Deputy Chief Brian Ziegler explained traffic was reduced to a single lane on Christensen Drive for a short time during suppression activities, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“I’d like to thank the volunteer firefighters for all their hard work and dedication to the department and our community,” he said. “These cold snaps cause an increase in call volume, and our volunteers step up to take care of what needs to be done.

Deputy Chief Ziegler reminded motorists when driving and coming across emergency vehicles with flashing lights along the roadway to please slow down, pay attention to the road, and follow directions from traffic control, especially with less than desirable road conditions.
