SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Invite was held Thursday at Spearfish Canyon Golf Club, where a total of 14 golfers from five schools participated in the event. This year’s invite featured two different formats.
Golfers were ranked on the basis of average and placed in two-player groups. The top seeded golfer was paired with the number 14 golfer, with 2 and 13, 3 and 12, and so on down to 7 and 8. Players from the same school were not in the same group.
The first nine holes featured a modified Chapman format. Both players in a group hit their tee shots, and one player hit her partner’s ball on the second shot. They alternated on the third and subsequent shots until the hole was completed.
Once complete, there was a tie at the top of the leader board. Alison Kennedy, paired with Sierra Bristow of Hot Springs tied with Kamryn Shull of Rapid City Stevens and Amity Strand of St Thomas More with 78’s.
Jaida Jacobs of Little Wound and Payton Reede of Spearfish came in third with an 82.
