SpearfishPD identify juveniles in theft, burglary spree

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Spearfish police say they have concluded a three-week investigation into a number of different vehicle thefts, vehicle burglaries, assaults, and other thefts.

Three juvenile males were identified as being responsible for the thefts and related crimes: a 17-year-old male from Summerset, S.D., and two males, a 15- and a 16-year-old, from Spearfish.

During the course of the investigation, the Spearfish Police Department identified other crimes the juveniles were responsible for in neighboring jurisdictions, including additional aggravated assault cases and theft cases. Police say they will continue to work with those jurisdictions to assist them in those cases.

The Spearfish Police Department would like to remind the public the best way to prevent vehicle theft is to lock their vehicles and not leave keys within their vehicle. All of the vehicles stolen were unlocked with the keys in them.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Charges including multiple counts of grand theft, theft, possession of stolen property, aggravated assault, weapons charges, and other offenses, will be requested for these juveniles upon completion of case work
