Spearfish woman given probation for stealing Title II funds not belonging to her

SPEARFISH, S.D. – A Spearfish woman has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to stealing social security funds.

Christi Marie Johnson, 37, was indicted by a federal grand jury in November of 2021 on charges of Theft of Government Funds.

Johnson plead guilty in March and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier to five years of probation. She must also pay back just over $16,500 she stole.

Prosecutors say Johnson willfully and knowingly stole Title II benefits payments from her deceased stepfather.
