STURGIS, S.D. – Meade County voters go to the polls for a special election next Tuesday, August 30th.
All Meade County voters will be deciding a medical marijuana license issue.
A petition turned in setting up the election asks voters whether or not to decide to amend the county’s medical marijuana ordinance and award three dispensary licenses as well as three licenses for cultivation facilities, three for cannabis testing facilities and three for cannabis product manufacturing facilities.
The county’s original ordinance didn’t offer any licenses for cultivation, testing or product manufacturing and only allowed one license.
A vote of “yes” will change the county ordinance while a vote of “no” will leave the county ordinance as is.
August 30th is also the date residents of the Rural Meade Ambulance District will vote on a change in the boundaries of the district.
Mark Bruch, chairman of the Meade County Rural Ambulance Tax District, said the ambulance service was asking for the boundary change to clean up a little hole they had in the center of their ambulance district at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip Campground.
