Special election today to establish Rural Ambulance District

STURGIS, S.D. – Unless you already voted absentee, the special election for the Rural Meade County Ambulance District is today.

There is just one polling place – located at the Meade County Auditor’s Office at the Erskine Building in Sturgis.

Because of the rising concerns about COVID-19, that is a new location.

Meade County Auditor Lisa Schieffer says this facility will be appropriately staffed to ensure the safety and convenience of workers.

The Erskine Building is located at 1300 Sherman Street in Sturgis. Rural residents who live outside city limits and are served by the Sturgis Ambulance Service are eligible to vote. Residents of Sturgis or the Buffalo Chip, however, are not voting.

If the district is approved, the next step will be too set a board of directors.

Polls are open until 7:00 p.m. tonight.
