Spring snowstorm moving into area tonight through Wednesday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A strong spring snowstorm will be moving into the region overnight tonight, and for some, it will bring considerable snow amounts along with possible whiteout conditions.

The National Weather Service has a wide range of winter storm warnings and advisories out.

As of now, it appears the heaviest snowfall will occur north of the Black Hills, with Blizzard Warning’s up for Harding and Perkins counties. Also included, is extreme southeast Montana and southwest North Dakota.

Winter Storm Warnings are up for the northern hills as well as Butte County and across northeast Wyoming.

Sturgis, Sundance, Piedmont and Summerset are under Winter Weather Advisories.

As for snow totals, forecasters say to expect 3 to 8 inches in Butte County, 4 to 7 inches in Spearfish and Whitewood and 1 to 4 inches in Sturgis. Snow amounts of 10 to 18 inches are possible in Harding County. In the upper elevations of the northern Black Hills, 4-8 inches of snow is expected.
