St. Thomas More Boys Down Scoopers

STURGIS, S.D. — The St. Thomas More boys scorched the nets in the first half and rode that momentum to a 55-29 victory over the Sturgis Scoopers on Tuesday night.

The Cavalier boys came into West Gymnasium on a nine game winning streak and exploded to a 22-4 lead after the first quarter on 9 of 12 shooting from the field. St. Thomas More outscored the Scoopers 16-11 in the second quarter behind two three-pointers from Caleb Hollenbeck to take a 38-15 lead into the locker room at the half. The Cavs shot 59% from the field in the first half with five three-pointers.

St. Thomas More went ice cold in the third quarter, only making three of 17 shots but canning five of six free throws to lead Sturgis 49-22 headed into the fourth. The Scoopers outscored STM in the final stanza 7-6, as the Cavaliers could only manage one field goal as head coach Dave Hollenbeck played his reserves. The Cavs sailed to a 55-29 win.

Dysen Peterson led Sturgis (1-13) with six points, with RJ Andrzjewski adding five. The Scoopers shot 39% from the field and attempted one free throw, but missed. Sturgis ended the night with 25 turnovers and 23 rebounds.

Caleb Hollenbeck led STM (13-2) with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Ryan Wojcik added 12 points on five of 10 shooting from the field. The Cavs shot 36% from the field, with nine turnovers and 21 boards.

The Scooper boys are in action again on Friday night at home as they host the Mitchell Kernels. Tip off is scheduled for 7pm at West Gym.
