UNDATED – The St Thomas More Competitive Cheer team won the Black Hills Conference Cheer Championship Thursday, edging out the Sturgis Scoopers, who placed second.
The Cavaliers scored a 198 with Sturgis right behind with a 195. Douglas was third with a 185 and Belle Fourche placed fourth with a 180.
Sturgis Competitive Cheer Coach Brooke Wubben was pleased with their performance and second place finish.
In a Facebook post, Coach Wubben said “I couldn’t have gotten through this season without the team I have. We may not have brought that (first place) trophy home, but they left their hearts on that mat and had an amazing performance.”
Up next for Sturgis Competitive Cheer is the state competition.
Winning the Black Hills Conference Dance title was Spearfish, who captured first place with a score of 247.5. En-route to the title, the Spartans won the Jazz competition and finished second in the Pom. Belle Fourche won the Pom and Hip Hop competition.
Sturgis Dance came in second in both the Jazz and Hip Hop category.
