St Thomas More wins State A Tennis Title

RAPID CITY, S.D. – St Thomas More crowned three singles champions and won a doubles championship en-route to capturing the South Dakota Class A Girls State Tennis State Tournament Tuesday.

The Cavaliers won singles championships in Flights 3,4 and 5.

Amity Strand defeated Evie Biers of Rapid City Christian 6-2, 6-3 for the Flight 3 singles championship.

Winning the Flight 4 championship was Evie Reinicke, who defeated Vermillion’s Mia Bennett 6-2, 6-4.

And, winning the Flight 5 championship was Elliya Strand, who defeated Eliza Mayer of Pierre 6-1, 6-2.

St Thomas More also won the Doubles Flight 1 championship.

Rapid City Christian crowned one champion in Katie Palmer, who defeated Shriya Gangineni of St Thomas More 6-2, 7-6.

St Thomas More finished with 488 points for the team title. Sioux Falls Christian was second, Vermillion was third and Rapid City Christian was fourth. Huron rounded out the top five.
