Stan M Johnson

Stan M Johnson

Stan M Johnson, 76 passed away January 9, 2025 at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.

Graveside services will be Friday, January 17, 2025, at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Stan was born on December 18, 1948, to Ernest and Alice (Anderson) Johnson in Watertown, South Dakota.  Stan was the youngest of three, joining his sisters Margie and Polly.
The family moved to Rapid City when Stan was two years old.  He attended school in Rapid City, graduating in 1967 from Rapid City High School.  In April 1968, Stan enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.  After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the Rapid City area where he worked in the carpentry business.  He then transitioned into floor covering and eventually into his own business.  He was also active in the Blucksberg Mountain Water Association for almost 40 years.

On August 1, 1981 Stan and Sheri were married at Sheridan Lake.  Together with Stan’s two children, Troy and Trina and Sheri’s two children, Dustin and Brendon, they became a family.  As a family, there were many camping, fishing, and boating trips.  He loved drinking his beer, watching NASCAR, and the 49ers along with spending many Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with his Blucksberg buddies.
Stan will be remembered for his considerate and selfless spirit.  He was always willing to lend a hand but never asked for help himself.  He always put others’ needs before his own.  Stan was cherished by many and will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his bride of 43 years, Sheri (Longhofer); children, Troy Johnson, Dustin (Christine) Nelson, Trina Johnson, and Brendon (Sherry) Nelson; grandchildren, Cody (Amber) Johnson, Sebastian Johnson, Jaiden Johnson, Brady Kindsfater, Tanner (Jami) Nelson, and Kaden Nelson; great grandson, Westyn Wade Nelson; mother-in-law, Virginia Edwards; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Stan in death were his parents, Ernest and Alice Johnson; sisters, Margie Cole and Polly Johnson; nephew, Mike Cole and granddaughter, Ashley Nelson.
A memorial has been established.
