Stars’ seven run fifth inning powers their Saturday night win over Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. – Rapid City Post 320 used a 7-run fifth inning to power past the Sturgis Titans 13-6 in Saturday night baseball action at Strong Field.

Sturgis scored first in the bottom of the second inning as Thor Sundstrom came home on a fielders choice to first base. But after that, it was all Post 320.

The Stars’ got going in the third inning as Gage Darrow scored off a wild pitch and Lane Darrow came home off a single by Peyton Ness.

Pot 320 scored another run in the fourth as a single by Mason Mehlhaff brought home Clinton Nalley.

Sturgis would close the gap in the bottom of the inning as Sundstron scored again off a wild pitch.

Post 320 broke the game open in the fifth with seven runs. Gavyn Dansby opened up the scoring, coming home off a wild pitch. Ness then scored on a single by Issac Dike. Gage Darrow then doubled,  bringing home 3 more runs. Dansby’s double added two more for the Stars.

Sturgis would put four runs across in the bottom of the seventh off relief pitcher Logan Miller before Jett Wetzler came in and struck out the last two Titan batters to end the game.

Dike had 4 hits and 3 R.B.I. while Gage Darrow had 3 R.B.I. to help lead Post 320.

Thor Sundstrom helped lead the Titans with 3 hits.

Jim Rogers got the pitching win for the Stars. He finished with six strikeouts and two walks.

Starting pitcher Gage Murphey for the Titans finished with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks.
