RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Sturgis Scoopers crowned one champion and had two runner-ups as the State A and B Wrestling Tournaments wrapped up the individual competition Friday night.
Reese Jacobs won his third championship and finished off an undefeated season by beating Chance Carda of Pierre for the 182 pound title. Jacobs won by a 13-8 decision.
Two other Scoopers brought home runner-up medals. They were Aiden Werlinger at 195 and Zac Juelfs at heavyweight. Harrisburg’s Jack Detert got the win at 195 with a 16-4 decision over Werlinger. Noah Hutmacher of Chamberlain won the 220 pound title with a pin over Juelfs at 1:19.
Other Scooper placers included Korbin Bunch in 6th at 106, Teryn Zebroski in 6th at 113, Tegan Zebroski in 4th at 120, Dee Daniels in 7th at 126, Beau Peters in 6th at 132, and Thayne Elshere in 5th at 138.
No other area athletes won championships, however, Corbin Zent of Stevens was the runner up at 120.
In the team standings, Brandon Valley was first with 208.5. Watertown placed second with a 184.5 and Pierre was third with a 182. Sturgis was fourth with 139 points.
At the State B Tournament, Philip crowned two champions.
Jace Blasius won the 138 pound title with a hard fought 2-1 decision win over Christian Ehresmann. Burk Blasius captured the 170 pound crown with a 3-1 decision over Parker Noem of Custer.
Another Philip wrestler, Carter Kendrick, brought home second at 106.
Custer crowned a champion with Tray Weiss, who won the 113 pound title over Cole Hendrickson of Tri Valley. Jonathan Lewis of Custer was the runner up at 160 pounds.
At 195, Caleb Rickenbach of Hot Springs was the runner up at 195.
In the team standings, Canton was first with 163.5 and Winner Area was second with 126.5.
Philip finished in third with 126 points and Custer was fourth with 119.
And, in the girls championships, Maraia Kruske of Spearfish won the 106 pound title with a quick pin of Sydney Uhrig of Pierre.
Brooklyn Baird of Sturgis brought home runner up at 113, losing her championship match to Sara Schroder of Canton.
At 132, Taylor Graveman of Spearfish won the 132 pound title with a dominating 13-0 win over Giann Stangeland of Pierre.
Pierre won the girls’ team title with 167 points. Canton was second with 134.5 and Spearfish finished third with 72 points.
