State A Wrestling Day One – Olson lone Scooper to advance to semifinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After advancing six wrestlers on to the quarterfinals Thursday, the Sturgis Scoopers only advanced one to the semfinals Friday.

Kaden Olson is the lone Scooper vying for a championship this year. Olson punched his ticket to the Semifinals with an 8-2 decision over Connor Hanson of Watertown.

The five other Scoopers who advanced to the quarterfinals dropped their matches Thursday afternoon.

At 106 pounds, Evan Osborn lost to Jack Schoenhard of Rapid City Stevents. At 120, Kelton Olson lost to Brayden Siemonsma of West Central. At 132, Perry Ketelsen lost to Chamberlain’s Gabe Skustad. At 152, Brett Konst lost in a technical fall to Jack Van Camp of Pierre. And, at 160, Reese Jacobs lost a 16-5 decision to Remington Rossow of Chamberlain.

Area athletes headed for the semifinals include: Schoenhard at 106, Cael Larson of RC Central at 120, Darien Malone of Stevens at 126, Declan Malone of Stevens and Max Sailor of Spearfish at 138, TJ Morrison of Central at 145, Brayden Burrus of Central at 152,Cooper Voorhees of Stevens at 160, Wyatt Jungclaus of Central and Caleb Brink of Stevens (who will wrestle each other in the semi’s) at 170, and Ryan Brink and Evan Hehr of Spearfish at 220.

In the team standings, Watertown is first with 68.5 points. Here are the top ten headed into Friday:

In the team dual tournament, the Scoopers fell to Watertown 68-3. Rapid City Stevens advances with their dual victory over Madison 46-30.
