State A Wrestling Update – Semifinals and 3rd and 4th Round Consolation

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scoopers opened the day with four wrestlers in the semifinals – and after some competitive matches, send one on to Friday night’s championships.

Reese Jacobs will be the lone Scooper in the championship matches, looking for a 170 pound medal. He will face Tae Ellenbecker of Sioux Falls Lincoln.

Tegan Zebroski, in the meantime, dropped his 113 pound semifinal match to Sloan Johannsen of Watertown and then faced Jackson Tschetter for a chance at third place.  Zebroski lost to Tschetter and will wrestle for fifth place. Kelton Olson, at 132, lost his semifinal to Moses Gross of Huron and then wrestled Watertown’s Weston Everson, where he got a 4-1 win. He will wrestle Caleb Richter for third. And, Aiden Werlinger, at 195 pounds, lost his semifinal match to Damion Schunke of Brandon Valley. Werlinger then wrestled Jack Detert of Harrisburg for a chance at third place. He beat Detert and will wrestle Jaxon Morrison of RC Central for third place.

Some area wrestlers have punched their ticket to the championships.

At 106 pounds, Corbin Zent of Stevens defeated Karson Vessells to head to the  championship, where he will face Trevon Oehme of Brandon Valley.

Jack Schoenhard of Stevens is headed to the 120 pound championship after defeating Nolan Miles of Brookings.

At 126, Logan Graf of Stevens defeated Mason Schrempp of Aberdeen Central to head to the championship match, where he will face Jordon Oehme of Brandon Valley. Also, Kaden Olson of Sturgis will wrestle for third place. He earned a trip to the consolation championship with a 7-0 win over Michael Roob of Vermillion.

At 138 pounds, Thomas McCoy of Belle Fourche will wrestle Carson Hansmann of Watertown for third.

At 145 pounds, Oakley Blakeman of Spearfish is headed to the championship after defeating Hayden Shaffer of Pierre. He will face Jagger Tyler of Mitchell. Perry Ketelson of Sturgis will wrestle for 7th place.

At 152, Rapid City Stevens had Corter Doney in the championship after a win over Clayton Donovan of Spearfish. Doney will face Deegan Houska of Pierre. Braden Temple of Sturgis wrestles for 7th place.

At 160 pounds, two Rapid City wrestlers will battle for the title. They are Landin Winter of Rapid City Central and Riley Benson of Stevens. Winter defeated Tyson Brandt of Brookings and Benson beat Barrett Schneck of Milbank.

At 220 pounds, Zac Juelfs of Sturgis will wrestle later today for 7th place.
