State adds 21 new deaths in Sunday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Health officials reported 185 new cases of COVID-19 statewide Sunday, with 31 of them listed as probable.

It was a deadly report Sunday however, as 21 new deaths were reported today, sending the statewide death toll since the pandemic began to 1,705.

Active cases of the virus stood just over 4,000 today at 4,005 and the number of people hospitalized fell to 162.

Across the Black Hills area, there were 49 new cases, of which, 10 were listed as probable.

Pennington County had the most with 35 and 6 of them probable. The cumulative total in Pennington County rises to 12,241.

Meade County added 5 new, confirmed cases Sunday for a total of 2,445.

Fall River added 4 new cases, Harding County added one and Oglala Lakota County had 4 new probable cases.

Across all of West River, there were 48 new, confirmed cases and 14 probable cases.

Lawrence, Butte and Custer all reported no new cases Sunday.
