SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The State B Wrestling Tournament wrapped up the consolation, or wrestleback rounds Saturday afternoon.
Here’s a look at area athletes vying for a medal.
At 106, Kipp Cordes of Philip placed seventh on a win over Chase Hanson of Stanley County.
At 126 pounds, Chase VanDerBoom of Newell wrapped up the season with a sixth place finish on a fifth place loss to Lucas Kannegieter of Clark/Willow Lake.
At 138 pounds, Burk Blassius of Philip finishes in seventh courtesy of win over Max Johnson of Lead-Deadwood.
At 145 pounds, Brennan Hanes of Custer lost his seventh round match to Mason Heath of Bennett County.
At 152 pounds, Irail Griffin shook off a tough quarterfinal loss on Friday and wrestled back to a seventh place finish, beating Daniel Cremer of
At 160, Hugh Groves of Faith placed seventh with a win over Kanden Laubach of Canton.
At 195 pounds, Sam Adams brought home fifth place as he defeats Cade Shoemaker of Webster Area.
At 220 pounds. Marcus Harkless of Hot Springs turned a tough loss in the quarterfinals into a third place finish as he wrestles his way all the way back. His third place medal is courtesy of a win over Clayton Smith of Marion/Freeman/Freeman Academy/Canistota/Menno. Harkless got the win in a fall at 1:08.
And, at 285, Lead-Deadwood’s Rob Lester also comes all the way back from a quarterfinal loss to win third place with a big win over Canton’s Zach Richardson.
The championship matches are Saturday night, and leading the points ahead of those matches is Canton with 214.5. Winner Area is second with 164 and Redfield Area is third. Philip is the top west river team sitting in eighth place.
