RAPID CITY, S.D. – The morning session is complete at the State B Wrestling Tournament and the Philip Scotties had a great morning, advancing 7 wrestlers on to the semifinals Friday afternoon.
Kipp Cordes won a 14-6 decision over Gage Anderson at 106 and Jace Blasius won his 113 pound quarterfinal with a 5-4 decision over Kellan Hurd.
At 126, Jadyn Coller advances to the semifinal courtesy of a 9-1 decision over Porter Neugebauer of Parkston. Blair Balsius at 145 defeated Drew Gerlach of Mount Vernon/Plankinton.
At 152, McCoy Peterson defeated Rylan Peck of Burke/Gregory by technical fall and at 160, Burk Blasius advances to the semifinals with a 5-0 decision win over Ty Beyer of Howard.
And, Cody Donnelly heads to the semi’s with a quick pin on Taron Serr of Burke/Gregory. He will face Caleb McGregor of Newell who won his quarterfinal with a 7-4 decision win over Charlie Patten of Parker.
In other action at the State B:
At 106, Custer’s Trey Weiss heads to the wrestleback after a quarterfinal loss to Holden Hawkins of Sisseton.
At 113, Cade Costello of Harding County and Leighton Sander of Custer lost their first round wrestleback.
The 120 pound bracket had three area athletes in the quarterfinals, and all three, with losses, head to the wrestleback. Custer’s Landon Woodward lost to Ayson Rice of Canton, Ryker Peterson of Philip dropped a 10-2 decision to Jhett Breen of Wagner and Cade Martian of Harding County lost to Gunnar Kvistad of Clear Lake.
At 126, Hunter Way of Hill City won his first round wrestleback with a pin on Wyatt Wientjes of Kingsbury County. Custer’s Pierce Sword dropped his first round wrestleback.
At 132, Thane Simons of Philip lost his quarterfinal to Chase Varilek of Kimball/White Lake/ Platte-Geddes, sending him to the wrestleback. Braden Weiss of Hill City won his first round wrestleback with a 6-0 win over Landon Reiser of Tri Valley.
At 138, three area wrestlers who lost their first round Thursday won their first round wrestleback. Chase VanDerBoom of Newell defeated Jack Neises of Howard, Gage Ravallette of Philip got a win over Jaxon Johnson of Hill City and Mickael Grace of Custer defeated Garrett Cramer of Faulkton Area.
At 145, Jonathan Lewis of Custer won his first round wrestleback over Matthew Steffensen of Kingsbury County.
At 152, Ty Allen of Bennett County won his wrestleback with a win over Anthony Benda. Sterling Sword also won his wrestleback with a win over Grayson Jacobs of Elk Point/Jefferson.
At 160, Parker Noem of Custer lost his quarterfinal matchup with Jaden Dominisse of Canton. He heads to the wrestleback.
At 170, Caleb Rickenbach of Hot Springs dropped his quarterfinal match with Gavin Jacobs of Elk Point/Jefferson. Elijah Steel of Custer won his first round wrestleback with a win over Parker Snyder of Philip.
At 182, Philip’s Jesse Hostutler lost his quarterfinal match to Spencer Hanson of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes. Richard Long of Harding County lost his first round wrestleback to Nolan Dvorak of Wagner.
At 195, Zayne Severyn of Custer lost his wrestleback to Sean Domke of Redfield.
At 220, Grey Gilbert lost his quarterfinal match to Preston Norrid of Winner Area. Tanner Davis of Hill City recovered from an opening round loss to win his wrestleback over Devan Appel of Sisseton.
And, at 285, Carter Estes of Lead-Deadwood dropped his wrestleback to Drake Peed of Elk Point/Jefferson.
