SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After getting defeated by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer Thursday night, St Thomas More answered with a consolation semifinal win over Mt Vernon/Plankinton Friday.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick 21-11 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, as they won 65-57.
Caleb Hollenbeck led St Thomas More with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cavaliers will play Sioux Valley for the consolation championship Saturday. Sioux Valley defeated Hot Springs 65 to 52.
Hot Springs will play Mount Vernon/Plankinton for 7th place.
At the State B Tournament in Aberdeen, the Faith Longhorns dropped their consolation semifinal matchup to Castlewood 59 to 49.
Castlewood led 11 to 8 after one quarter and held a 27-22 lead at halftime.
The Longhorns trailed 43 to 34 after three and couldn’t overcome the deficit in the fourth quarter.
Jackson Schauer led the Longhorns with 22 points. Caden Selby chipped in 11 points for Faith.
Faith will play Ethan for 7th place Saturday. Ethan dropped their consolation semifinal to Viborg-Hurley 56-42.
Viborg-Hurley and Castlewood play for the consolation championship.
And, at the State AA Tournament in Rapid City, Harrisburg beat Sioux Falls Washington 65-55 and Pierre outlasted Sioux Falls Roosevelt 56-46 to set up a consolation showdown between the Governors and Tigers on Saturday.
