State D.O.H. reports 44 new cases, two new COVID-19 related deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – There were 44 new COVID-19 cases in the state Sunday according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Pennington County had 7 of those, sending their cumulative total to 720 with 145 active cases. The number of active cases in Pennington is down 4 from Saturday.

Oglala Lakota County reported one new case, giving them 27 active and 127 cumulative. The number of active cases in Oglala Lakota is down 4 as well from Saturday.

Elsewhere across western South Dakota, there were 3 new cases in Dewey County and one new case each in Bennett, Lyman and Mellette County.

Two new deaths were reported today. The two deaths are reported as one man and one woman. One person is from Minnehaha County and the other is from Pennington County. One new death was listed in the 50-59 age range and the other death was listed in the 80+ age range.

The statewide death toll is now 118.

The statewide active number of cases is 836 Sunday, down 19 from Saturday. The number of people hospitalized is also down seven to 63.

A total of 840 new tests were reported Sunday, down from Saturday’s 1,274.
