State health department reports 156 new COVID-19 cases; 30 around the Black Hills

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported a spike in COVID-19 cases Sunday as 156 new positive tests have been reported. The Black Hills area recorded 30 of those.

Pennington County reported 12 new COVID-19 cases, sending their cumulative total to 942 and 114 of those are active. The active number of cases is up 4 from Saturday.

Meade County recorded 7 new positive tests Sunday, sending their cumulative total over 100 to 104. The active caseload in Meade is up six Sunday to 21.

After adding six new cases Saturday, Lawrence County reported another four new cases Sunday, sending their cumulative total to 73. The active caseload in Lawrence is up 2 Sunday to 24.

Custer County saw an increase of six new cases today, giving them a total of 45 with 16 active.

Butte County reported one new case. Butte has a total of 20 with 6 active cases.

The state’s active number of cases soared 100 today to 1,182. The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 is up 3 Sunday to 66.

The state’s death toll is also up one today to 153. Sunday’s death was reported out of Lake County.

Two deaths were reported on Saturday, including a Lawrence County resident – the first reported COVID-19 related death in Lawrence.
