State Health Department reports four new deaths; 42 new COVID-19 cases Thursday

PIERRE, S.D. – The state Department of Health reported 42 new cases of COVID-19 today and there were four new deaths.

Two deaths were men and two were women. One new death was listed in the 30-39 age range, two were 60-69 and one was 80-89. One death was in Minnehaha County, one was in Union County, one was in Todd County and one was in Oglala Lakota. It is the first COVID-19 related death in Oglala Lakota County.

Pennington County reported 5 new cases today, sending their cumulative total to 679 with 141 active cases. The active cases are down 16 from yesterday.

Meade County reported four new cases today, giving them a cumulative total of 58 with 8 active cases.

Oglala Lakota County had four new positive tests today, and their active caseload is 33, up two from yesterday.

The statewide active caseload is down 36 today to 842.

The number of people hospitalized is up two today to 61.

The state’s number of deaths is now 115.
