PIERRE, S.D. – In the Sunday COVID-19 report from the Department of Health, an additional 23 people have died due to COVID-19 or COVID-19 complications, sending the state’s death toll to 1,656.
Along with the new deaths were 266 new cases, of which, 76 are considered probable.
Active cases dropped by 175 Sunday to 4,662 and the number of people hospitalized due to the virus is up four today to 213.
Across West River counties, there were 80 total cases with 22 of them listed as probable.
Across the Black Hills, Pennington County reported 28 new cases with 7 of them listed as probable. The cumulative total number of cases in Pennington rises to 12,043 and the number of active cases is down to 551.
In Meade county, there were 11 new confirmed cases, sending the total to 2,411 with 125 remaining active.
In Lawrence County, there were 9 new cases with one of them listed as probable. The cumulative total in Lawrence rises to 2,704 but active cases of the virus are now under 100 to 92.
Other new cases across the Black Hills area included 5 in Butte and 2 each in Custer, Fall River and Oglala Lakota.
