State health officials report 345 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, two new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – The downward trend of new COVID-19 cases continued Tuesday as the state health department reported 345 new cases in their latest report.

There were two new COVID-19 deaths reported, sending the state’s death toll to 1,261.  The new deaths were one man and one woman in the 60-69 age range and 80+ age range and out of Bennett and Pennington counties.

Active cases decreased by over 11-hundred Tuesday to 11,519. The number of people hospitalized dropped by 6 to 435.

New cases across West River counties totaled 81.

Pennington County reported 31 new cases, sending the cumulative total to 10,093 with 1,431 active cases.

In Meade County, 5 new cases were reported for a total of 2,042 and 288 remain active.

And, in Lawrence County, 4 new cases were reported, sending the total to 3,342 with 300 remaining active.

Other new cases across West River included 14 in Oglala Lakota, 6 in Todd, 5 in Fall River, 4 in Haakon, 2 each in Butte, Custer, Stanley and Bennett and one each in Corson, Dewey, Gregory and Mellette.

There were 735 new persons tested reported on Tuesday. Tuesday’s new person tested positivity rate is 47%.
