State health officials report 7 new COVID-19 related deaths for first time since February

PIERRE, S.D. – For the first time since February 27, South Dakota reported 7 new deaths in its Friday COVID-19 report.

The new deaths were four men and three women in the 60-69, 70-79 and 80-plus age ranges. The seven new deaths send the state’s death toll to 1,946.

New cases of COVID-19 Friday totaled 270 with 76 them listed as probable.

Active cases were down slightly to 2,465 and the number of people hospitalized dropped three to 97.

Across the Black Hills, Pennington County added 29 total new cases Friday, with 10 of them listed under the probable category. Active cases in Pennington are up to 147.

Lawrence County had 6 new cases today and Meade County listed 2 new cases.

Elsewhere, Custer and Fall River counties each had 3 new cases and Butte and Oglala Lakota each had 2 new cases.

With 1,146 new persons tested for the latest report, the state lists the new-persons-tested positivity rate at 23.5-percent.
