State health officials report six new deaths in Thursday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 587 new cases of COVID-19 in their Thursday report with 144 of those listed under the probable category.

Active cases were up just slightly to 7,725 and the number of people hospitalized dropped by 23 today to 203.

However, six new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,115. New deaths were reported out of Custer, Fall River, Minnehaha and Pennington counties.

Across the Black Hills area, there were 233 total cases with 39 of those listed as probable.

Pennington County had 108 confirmed cases and 23 cases listed as probable.

In Meade County, there were 26 confirmed and 6 probable, while Lawrence County had 29 new cases – all confirmed.

Elsewhere, Butte County added 15 new cases, Custer  County had 7 confirmed, 3 probable cases, Fall River County reported 7 confirmed and 4 probable and Harding County listed one confirmed and 3 probable cases.
