State prison inmate dies of illness

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Corrections says a 46-year-old state prison inmate has died following an illness.

Corrections officials weren’t specific about what caused the death of Michael Rich on Sunday.

He died in the Jameson Annex at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

Rich was serving a 15-year sentence with one year suspended for aggravated assault in Meade County.
